PAPER MODEL ELEVATOR CONSTRUCTION

PAPER MODEL ELEVATOR CONSTRUCTION

Walls

Begin construction of the main A building by scoring the corners and gluing flaps, then gluing the two halves together, using a flat hard surface.  The siding boards should match up.  Then fold the two ends in and glue the remaining corner, again on a hard surface and matching the siding boards.  This helps to ensure that your building will be nice and “square”.  Color the cut and scored edges using a matching brown pencil crayon or marker.  This is far easier to do now than after the building is finished.  Just lay the assembly flat and run the marker along the cut edge; repeat if necessary.

Roof

Cut out first and then score all roof sections.  With the printed side facing up, score between the shingles and the brown “under eaves”.  With the printed side down, score along the glue tabs.  All folds are made away from the score line.  Fold the brown sections right back under the shingles, and glue.  The tabs remain at right angles to the brown section.  Glue the small section, of the receiving shed roof to the larger piece, where indicated.  Color all exposed edges.

Note:  One of the side, roof sections has two short orange lines on the outer edge.   This section is for the side where the Main B section will be added.  Cut the orange lines, then score between them and fold the resulting tab down.  This allows clearance so that the B section can fit up against the A section wall.

Foundation

The  “A” foundation part, fits the Main A building with the receiving shed attached.  If you were to want to have an “A” building by itself, use the Main B building foundation.

Score all solid black lines with the printed side up.  Cut and remove the red rectangle across the part.  The dotted line is a positioning guide for the support beam.  Fold the large white tabs up, and the concrete tabs down.  Glue corner tabs and install the support over the red slot, ensuring that there is at least enough clearance for the slot created to accept a double thickness of card stock.  Color all exposed cut edges, and the foundation is finished.

Receiving Shed

Score with the printed side up, then fold down.  Glue to the front of the Main A building walls.  (a side with the doors)

Assembly

The roof and foundations sections should sort of “snap” into the wall section, forcing everything to be nice and square.  Test fit all the parts before applying glue.  Attach the top roof first, then the side roof, receiving shed and finally the foundation.  This allows access to the roof section glue tabs, before the foundation is glued in place.

Main B Building

Construct the walls, roof and foundation assemblies in a similar manner.  Attach the wall section to the side of the main A building.  Again, siding board should match.  Attach roof section, and finally the foundation.

Office
Use the same procedure here, walls, roof and then foundation.

Walkway and railings

Railings and uprights should be scored (lightly) before cutting out.  The railing is scored length-wise on the indicated lines.  Fold the narrowest part right back on itself, and glue.  The remaining two parts should be at right angles.  Fold the uprights strips, and glue as indicated below, forming five, double thickness uprights, which are connected at the top.  Upright section can then be glued to the unpainted part of the rail.  Cut railings to length, as required.

Assemble main walkway section; make cuts to accept the uprights, where indicated, leaving the bottom open until the uprights have been installed and glued in place.  Assemble stairs and glue to both sides of the walkway.  Unless your model is installed permanently somewhere, it is probably best not to glue the walkway to other parts of the model buildings.

……to be continued.

Still to come:

 Driveways
 Wooden annex
 Cylindrical steel annex
